February has always been extra special to me. With my birthday, wedding anniversary and Valentine's day - all falling in February, I continue the celebrations for the entire month. And I seldom give peace to my friends, who get constant reminders of all the dates!
Now that February is almost over, I have been wondering how to end this month with a special note. So, why not love stories on the finale of the month of love?
All of us may have a thing or two to share about love stories. If at all we don't get enough of them from movies or books, or personal experiences, a walk around the memory lane can tell us of our college lives where lovers walked hand-in-hand, a crush that never found the way to the other side, a boyfriend who tried to impress his girl with gifts while friends clicked pictures, and of course, the cute selfies! Staying next to a college, I see blooming love stories in abundance. Though every love story has essentially the same elements, each one is unique in its own way.
So, let me list down a few love stories that I have witnessed, that got tattooed to my heart permanently.
5. Naina was travelling by train with her friends when she spotted the handsome guy sitting next to her. She confidently commented about him in Malayalam, thinking he is a North Indian. When he replied to her in perfect Malayalam, what became a moment of embarrassment later transformed into a beautiful friendship. Those days, Abel's e-mails were something Naina always looked forward to. They motivated her to focus on her studies. Slowly, they became each other's support system. Years later, when Abel proposed Naina, she had not realized that she loved him. All she knew was that life would be incomplete without his presence. When this beautiful couple decided to get married, they had to put up a long fight with family. Theirs was the first wedding I watched on with tears of joy. They proved the power of perseverance! All ended well and their 'happily ever after' has begun.
To Abel & Naina!
4. When Nidhi and Imraan realised that they are in love, they were totally stuck. They knew that their parents would not support this and neither wanted to hurt their family. But their love for each other was no less. They decided to spend as much time they can with each other and move on when they have to. So, that is what they did. The love story lasted a few months during which they both were happy and helped to make each other a better person. While this was not a time-pass or 'no strings attached' kinda relationship, they both were aware of the separation that awaited them. When the time came, with extreme difficulty, they buried their love story in the deepest pit of heart and moved on to get married and lead two separate lives. Today they live happy and content lives, made better by the strength of their relationships.
To life decisions!
3. After a few years of her marriage, Sampoorna was not sure if her husband loved her. There were no niceties in terms of words, flowers or gifts. Though little expressed, their love was deep-rooted. Thirty years later, they realise how they complete each other and constantly require each other's support. They realise the depth of their love which was clouded earlier with several responsibilities of life. They did not celebrate Valentine's day or exchange gifts every now and then. But their bond is as strong as ever.
To Eternal love & Patience!
2. Raghu was a complete family man. His wife Yamuna was the life of the family. Raghu had not even begun to fathom the life that would be without his beloved wife when she developed a life-threatening disease and died soon after. Time stopped for Raghu. He struggled to find purpose in his life again. Even with the support of friends and family, his life became stagnant and colourless. Years later, Raghu met his school time crush and they dusted their old memories, creating a special bond. Their companionship was a boon to each other, bringing back some meaning to life. Everyone who knew Raghu could see that he looked happy and well for the first time in years. They encouraged him to marry her, but her children could not accept the situation and broke them apart. We almost always blame the older generation for being least supportive of love. The situation was reversed in this case, making one question many ornaments that adorn the 'new generation', least of which being sensibility.
Sometimes a companion is all you need to make your life worth living.
1. Vidya and Adi met on Orkut - the social media platform that was later wiped out by Facebook. When the teenager went to Internet Cafe to explore this new chatting system, all she looked for was an out from her daily life. In the innocence of the age, when their friendship bloomed into something deeper, it was an assurance that not everyone who chats is fraudulent. Adi was what completed Vidya. His constant encouragement helped her complete her education with flying colours. Her support helped him land a great job. Ten years down the line, I see that their love is only stronger and not at all affected by their physical distance. I call them miracle couple. As they wait for a green signal from their families to officially marry and begin a life together, I wish them all the happiness in life!
To the miracle couple! :)
Disclaimer: The names are fictional, but the love is very real.
